"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us." 2 Cor 4:7
An empty vessel is of much use in deserts because it holds water and satisfies the thirst of many. If the vessels were full with sand instead of water, it would be detrimental to the people carrying them. Not only would they be tired of carrying them, but also, they would not be able to drink its contents because sand does not quench thirst.
When we come to the feet of Christ, we are like vessels full of sand; however, our purpose is to carry water, the Living Water. Our walk with Christ is then a journey in which the sand is taken out of us and we are emptied of ourselves. How is this done? and why?
Our Lord Christ Jesus told us in John 15 how this is done: "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me" (vs. 4). We cannot empty ourselves of ourselves, to do so would be prideful; we can only abide in Him and He will abide in us. When He abides in us, Christ increases and we decrease. We will then be following His words: "take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (Mt 11:29)
When He fills us and His light shines through us, others who live in darkness will see Christ and come to Him. This is why we are emptied of ourselves, so that we can follow the marching orders He gave us before He ascended: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
Empty Vessels has been opened to allow the sharing of each others' testimony of how the Lord transforms and changes us to His image, and His miracles in our lives with the purpose of giving glory to the Father. His Blog is where I, Alicia, share what the Lord has pressed upon my heart to share with you, my brethren in the faith. The Writing on the Wall is where You can share with others testimony of your walk with the Lord. This is a two-way street!
Please join me in sharing with other brothers and sisters the transformational walk with Christ that unites all those who have come to the feet of Jesus of Nazareth.
