Sometimes I find myself lost in the world of thoughts, I am sure at least one person out there has this problem as well. But as I was swimming and drowning in thoughts, the Lord spoke to me. How?
Well, first let me tell you how important it is to surround yourself with scripture. In art, music, 3 x 5 cards, sticky notes, what have you. I think these are some of the tools the Lord uses for the Selah (stop, look, and listen) moments...at least in my case.
Thinking, pondering, reflecting...quickly, my thoughts were running off - and I willfully let them go. Then my eyes landed on a wooden plaque with the following verse: He will keep you in perfect peace, all those who trust in Him, whose thoughts turn often to the Lord (Is. 26:3).
The first red traffic light (what made me stop the thinking initially) was in the form of the word Peace. That's what I needed. What a promise that He will keep in PERFECT peace those who TRUST Him. I trust Him, but my thoughts seem to be going wild goose on me. Then the next red light were the words 'whose thoughts turn often to the Lord'. I know that I am to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor 10:4-5). I don't know about you, but my thoughts are not born in obedience to Christ. Doomed, I felt. But there was a key word that the Lord highlighted for me: TURN.
This word reminded me of metanoia, repentance, U-turns. And there it was, metanoia for my thoughts. Yes, my thoughts are not born into obedience to Christ, and thoughts are burdensome, heavy, thick when they are not of the Lord. However, the promise is that He will keep me in perfect peace, I who trust Him, I, whose thoughts TURN OFTEN to the Lord. My thoughts may start in disobedience, but as often they turn to the Lord, He will keep me in perfect Peace.
If the thought is death, let the thought turn to Life;
if the thought is dark, let the thought turn to Light;
if the thought is fear, let the thought turn to Love;
if the thought is lie, let the thought turn to Truth;
if the thought is anxiety, let the thought turn to the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Philipians 4:8
So, if you are struggling with your thoughts, worries, concerns, TURN those thoughts to the Lord, and do so often, then He will keep you in perfect Peace.
